| 308 (RDG 308G) is up for sale. Rosemary and Louise Carr currently own the Roadliner. They have written: "After owning the Daimler for anumber of years it's time to find her a new home. She is a non-runner but very sound. If anyone can help please phone us on 01233 840651." |

Black & White Motorways, one of the best loved coach companies (and certainly one of the most influential in the development of European long-distance express road travel) now has its own gallery from the start of 2007.
It was closely allied with Bristol Tramways, Midland Red, Royal Blue and Red & White. It was the kingpin of the Associated Motorways network which showed the way that inexpensive coach travel could move people.
It was out of Cheltenham's St Margaret's Road that - at busy times - the 167-coach capacity coach station could turn out 200 or more coaches for the afternoon peak interchange by a bit of jiggery-pokery, and organisational magic by the inspectors.
The bell sounding their "launch", the roar of those engines, the rustle of handkerchiefs, the blue haze and the fluttering of the pigeons into the cast-iron rafters, and the sudden silence as the last motor left, are all now simply distant memories - as is the coach station.
Like others who worked at the station and have since created websites, I hope my pics will bring back a few memories ... and give younger enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy the excitement public (and staff) felt as the interchange approached its climax.
It was a company that did not cease on a particular day - it just faded into the National Travel fold. That is why you will find both National Travel South West and the successor National Travel West vehicles included ... but not the other constituents like Greenslades and Shamrock & Rambler. They are in my National Express gallery.
From my view point I have ended the gallery with the second vehicle to be numbered 216. |
